Novak Djokovic Delivers Caution to Jannik Sinner: Suspension Will Hang Over Him Like a "Cloud"

Novak Djokovic has cautioned Jannik Sinner that his three-month doping suspension will linger over his career as a constant shadow – and raised doubts about the timing of the penalty last year.

Details of the Suspension

The Italian player served a three-month prohibition in early 2025 after the World Anti-Doping Agency approved his account that a prohibited performance-enhancing substance, the steroid clostebol, had been ingested unintentionally.

"This shadow will trail him just as the cloud of Covid will follow me, for the rest of his, or my career," Djokovic stated in an interview on Piers Morgan: Uncensored.

"It's just something that, it was so significant, and when that happens, over time it will fade, but I believe it won't fully vanish. There will inevitably exist a certain group of people that will continually reference the incident."

The Champion's Viewpoint

Djokovic expressed belief that Sinner, his frequent training companion, "didn't do it on purpose", but he then scrutinized how the player arranged to serve his time without sitting out any major tournaments.

"There is the lack of transparency, the irregularity, the convenient timing of the suspension coming between the slams, so he avoids skipping important competitions – it's just it was very, very odd," he further commented.

Wider Player Reactions

"I am dissatisfied with how the case was being handled and you could hear so many other players, both male and female, who had some similar situations coming out in the media and asserting it represented favorable handling."
